Graduating from Jordanhill with a BA in Art, Drama, Dance and Music, Nicola has adapted her work as a contemporary dancer and choreographer to the traditional idiom. Training at Sabhal Mór Ostaig on Skye, she studied Cape Breton-style stepdancing with Harvey Beaton and Mairi Campbell (to name only two!), whilst teaching for the Arran Fiddle and Stepdance Club. Stepdancing is a form of percussive dance originally native to Scotland and when not dancing to the band’s tunes, Nicola’s rich and varied bodhrán playing provides the rhythm for the ceilidh dances. As our dancing specialist, Nicola demonstrates the ceilidh sets by walking through the dances to make sure the uninitiated get off to a flying start! A former recorder consort member and choral vocalist, Nicola also provides tunes and harmonies on whistles and expands the band’s repertoire with a range of great traditional and contemporary songs.
